"About six months ago me and a bunch of my slacker buddies wanted to start a comedy site so we wouldn’t have to get real jobs. We were about to hire a bunch of tech geeks to build the thing when we discovered Uber. We have no knowledge of HTML or web experience beyond advanced porn searching skills and mp3 theft, but we've created a comedy site on Uber that gets close to a million hits every month. Uber is a great site that lets fools like us build our daily top 10 pages everyday in less than 30 minutes. And oh yeah: We’re also making money because Uber lets anyone put Google Adsense modules on their pages.
Before you get going with doing your own thing you have to join Uber. It's free, they don't send out junk mail and fake friend requests from imaginary hot girls named Candy. Once you do that, here’s a quick tutorial on how to make your own Unibrow:
STEP 1: Search Uber And Find Videos From YouTube
The first thing you do is pick a topic like Family Guy (or “boobs” if you prefer) and search for it on Uber. Uber searches sites like YouTube, Flickr and the libraries of other Uber users, so you get to choose from photos, videos and streaming music.
You can drag the things you like into the Drop Box and it adds them to your page.
Once you’re done collecting the things you like, go to “My Page” and start building your page.
STEP 2: Building Your Page
First, set the background colors of your page by clicking the Background button. You can choose from a variety of colors as well as upload a custom background image like the Unibrow background. Drag your main page background into the Inner Background box.Next, click on what we like to call the “magic†button or Advanced Edit.
When you go into Edit Mode you can do anything you want on your Uber page. You can add videos, photos, links and a music player. No more hacked HTML jobs that look like crap on sites like MySpace. Uber has drag and drop functionality that allows you to grab any part of the page and move it around, arranging the different photo and video modules however you want. Once you’re finished, click on the Publish button to save your new page layout.
The last step to making a page like Unibrow is to create the blog. Go to your Library and click on Blogs to access the blog tool. Click on the Write New Post button to do your first entry.
The Uber blog tool lets you customize every part of the text (font type, color, size) as well as add videos, photos and links by clicking on the +Media button.
Once you’re done click Publish and Uber will automatically syndicate your blog on the web, which just means they tell the nerds at Google that you're doing stuff so that your blog will show up in search engines.
STEP 3: Syndicate & Make Money
Now that you’ve built your page, you've got a few different options when it comes to spreading the word about your blog on the web. Uber takes care of the first step by updating your RSS feed to services like Google and Feedburner, but you can also use other services like StumbleUpon and del.icio.us to get exposure.
This next part is our favorite. You can make money with your blog by putting Google Adsense on your page. First create a Google Adsense account and then add the Google Adsense module to your page. You’ll be rolling in cheddar cheese like us in no time.
